Be a little kinder today.To yourself.To someone else.Without announcing it.
Be a little kinder today.To yourself.To someone else.Without announcing it.

By Patrick M. Tarpey

This morning, while out for my walk, I noticed a series of signs that have been popping up around town.

I've seen them before — usually from the car, often around the ring road, half-noticed and quickly forgotten.

But today I was on foot.I had time. So I stopped and looked properly.

The messages are simple:

You are doing great.Be who you want to be.Don't break yourself to fit in.Enjoy your day.

They're printed to look handwritten, and each one has a child's name and age on it.

My first reaction was very straightforward.

I thought it was a kind thing to do.

Thoughtful.Helpful.Quietly generous.

Not about attention

There is a name on the signs — the people who helped make them happen.

But it isn't the point.

The signs don't advertise.They don't direct you anywhere.They don't ask for credit.

They're not trying to be noticed.

They're just there, offering something small to whoever happens to walk past at the right moment.

This isn't a performative gesture. It isn't kindness as a badge.

It's kindness left behind without fuss.

What landed for me

I've passed these signs before, but slowing down made all the difference.

Standing there in the cold, what stayed with me wasn't any single phrase.

It was the tone.

No judgement. No advice. No fixing.

Just a gentle nudge that says:

Be a little kinder today. To yourself. To someone else.Without announcing it.

That's the message I took from them — and that's the one I wanted to share.

You don't have to do anything big.You don't have to make a show of it.

Just be a little kinder to someone today.

Chances are, they'll need it more than you realise.
